KID'S CLASSES

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is an excellent form of self-defence and a great way for kids to learn self-confidence, discipline, body awareness, and balance. Our children’s curriculum ensures a vibrant and enriching class experience for the children in a safe and fun environment. The classes are open to children aged 5-16 to come and try!

Our kids’ membership runs throughout the year, but classes are term time only. Please be aware that this has already been taken into account in the membership pricing. The termly payments are spread out over the 4/8/12 months, depending on your selected contract – you’re not paying for missed classes.

Term Dates Autumn 2024:

Classes start back on September 7th and run through until December 7th inclusive. There will be 11 sessions and each class will have 2 weeks off for half term.

APART FROM THE SATURDAY AND SUNDAY CLASSES, half term will be October 19th – Nov 1st inclusive.

The Saturday sessions that will be ‘half term break’ will be 5th October and 26th October. There will also be a catch up Saturday session on Dec 7th as the hall is closed to us on Nov 30th.

The Sunday sessions that will be their ‘half term break’ will be Sunday 27th October and Sunday 3rd November.

There is a catch up class for the Wednesday jiu jitsu kids on December 11th and for the Thursday kickboxing class on December 12th for the sessions missed in Oct when Tiffins was closed.

Classes restart in 2025 on January 6th.

Kids Behaviour Policy

  1. Respect

Children should respect their instructors and training partners. They should not use their skills to hurt other people.

  1. Safe Training

Children should listen and follow the instructions carefully. If they are not sure, or learning a new skill they should drill slowly and carefully and ask the instructor to show them the technique again if needed. They should always stop if their training partner taps or says ‘stop’ or seems to be in discomfort.

  1. Training

Children should listen carefully, work hard, try their best and be attentive. They should help their training partner by trying hard during the drills and take turns.

  1. Language

Children should avoid language that is rude, racist or sexist. They should not make fun of a partner or use derogatory turns if they are finding it hard to learn a particular skill.

  1. Punctuality

Children should arrive on time for classes – time to warm up is particularly important for a physical activity such as jiu jitsu.

  1. Victory and defeat

Children should be gracious in victory and defeat, and not gloat.

  1. Bullying

Bullying is not acceptable and goes against the ethos of our club. It will be dealt with seriously

  1. Reporting concerns

If something occurs within a class that the child is not happy with, please discuss it with the instructor/ email admin@kingstonjiujitsu.com

  1. Parental responsibility

Your child remains your responsibility until they are in the room where training occurs.

Jiu jitsu is a ‘slow burn’ sport and encouragement, support of regular training and patience will make the process an enjoyable one.

What happens if a child does not fulfil these behaviour expectations?

The coaching team are trained in child behaviour management and will implement strategies to encourage excellent behaviour. These may include reminding a child or children of the behaviour expected of them or informing them that certain behaviour does not meet these expectations. Coaches may ask children behaving in a disruptive way to sit out the training session for a short while initially, the time of sitting out being extended for repeated bad behaviour. If behaviour is extremely or persistently disrespectful or disruptive, a child may be asked to leave the club permanently. Our primary concern with a contact sport must be the safety of everyone in the room.

Uniform policy:

Kingston Jiu Jitsu uniform is compulsory for all kids training at the club. We have all sizes available – please contact admin@kingstonjiujitsu.com for more information.
